Q. 1. Answer any one of the following question in about 40-60 word.

(a) The study of home science is an Art and Science. Explain both implications with two examples each.

Ans. Home science serves as the ‘art’ and ‘science’ of living. In Home Science one can learn about nutrients, food groups, balanced meals, etc. that will improve our scientific knowledge. For example when we use this knowledge for preparing nutritious food then it is ‘science’, but when we serve the food in an attractive manner then it is ‘art’. Similarly, when we learn about textiles, fiber, fabric etc. along with their properties and care, that will be called ‘science’ but when we design and stitch garments to beautify it, it becomes ‘art’.

Q. 2. Answer any one of the following question in about 40-60 words.

(b) Explain two techniques by which you can increase certain vitamins and minerals in food before cooking.

Ans. Two techniques by which are can increase certain vitamins and minerals in food even before cooking are – (a) germination (b) fermentation. Germination – Germination is an aged old, time tested method of increase certain nutrients at home. By using this process, we can germinate moong, chana, whole grains at home and increase vitamin C, iron and other nutrients. Fermentation – It is a process by which some micro-organisms are added to the food to make them light and fluffy. Foods that involve this process and dough-atta/maida, curd, cereal-pulse combination etc.
